Creepy Photo
This isn’t my typical post, but I saw this photograph by Max Rossi in the NYT this morning and could not get it out of my head. Something about the scale of the ship (the Costa Concordia that ran aground off the coast of Italy on January 13th, 2012 ) in relation to the sunbathers just flips me out. In part because of their actual proximity to the vessel itself. If you must see more, go here.

it’s also sitting next to a disaster that makes it ironic.
There was a freighter of some sort near Manitou Island in Lake Michigan, the Francisco Morizan, that had run aground. We used to swim up to it when we were young (60s)- nothing about that- letting the boat sit and rot for years (environmental impact), letting people explore the unsafe wreckage, someone not being accountable for the wreckage..it’s a good thing so many things have changed.

Creepy yes but looking at the blue decks as just a shape they do make for an interesting design…almost like a modern building rising from the ocean (that’s not meant to take away from the tragedy)
